To be surrounded by a sea of blank canvases is to be hugged enthusiastically by possibility. While originally I’d thought to create large-scale, 24in x 36in, paintings celebrating each Realms of Courage Composer and their music (so a total of 15 paintings), I reconsidered upon reflecting on my experience creating The Nine Guardians of Water - a polyptych of nine paintings. I found that creating a polyptych allowed me to convey multiple stories simultaneously, and each tale would collude with another to form an epic. So, here we are! I’ll be creating 15 polyptychs amplifying the lived experiences and music of the 15 composers. Let’s do the math: 1 polyptych = 9 paintings, 15 polyptychs = 135 paintings.

I gotta ask: How cool are these circular convex canvases? Too cool. They’re discontinued, and because I wanted them so badly for this project, I bought out the entire store’s stock of ‘em!
